The dazzling earrings that were encountered on various islands of the Dodecanese in the 17th and 18th centuries and were known as “bells” inspired the Rho earrings. The “bells” must have accompanied a now-lost type of forehead jewelry rooted in Byzantine tradition. AENÁLIA’s modern take on them is equally impressive with strands of beads that will sway gently as you walk.
 
The frontier Greek islet of Rho, part of the small archipelago of Kastellorizo, lent its name to the earrings. They are dedicated to the memory of a great Greek patriot, Despina Achladiotou (1890-1982), the so-called “Lady of Rho”. She was daily raising the Greek flag for 39 years on the islet of Rho, of which she was the sole resident. “Life on Rho is not that pleasant, but you feel Greece more, lost as you are in the sea…”, she had said.
